Blackberry Peach Old Fashioned

  • The Cocktail: Blackberry Peach Old Fashioned with Woodford Reserve bourbon, peach preserves, one muddled blackberry, Angostura bitters, and a lemon twist
  • The night: Thursday, 4 November 2011
  • The bartender: Courtney
  • Inspiration/Source: spinoff
  • The taste: The peach jam adds a slight fruit flavor this classic drink which is followed up nicely by the tart blackberry and bitters. It works well for the fall and could even be served up as a side dish to a Thanksgiving dinner!

The Twentieth Century Cocktail – from Vintage cocktail night

  • The Cocktail: The Twentieth Century Cocktail with Bombay Dry gin, Creme de cacao, Lillet Blanc, and fresh lemon juice
  • The night: Thursday, 18 October 2011
  • The bartender: Courtney
  • Inspiration/Source: vintage cocktail
  • The taste: The flavor is slightly unusual with its unexpected mixture of ingredients. Initially tart and herbal, tasting a perfect mixture of the gin, lemon, and Lillet, it quickly turns slightly sweet–almost like a light, lemon-chocolate cake.

Here is the menu from the evening:

The Modernista

  • The Cocktail: The Modernista with Scotch, dark rum, Pernod, Swedish Punsch, fresh lemon juice, and Angostura bitters
  • The night: Friday, 7 October 2011
  • The bartender: Courtney
  • Inspiration/Source: Classic Cocktail from Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails by Ted Haigh
  • The taste: The initial taste is sweet, reminiscent of a tiki cocktail; but then the smokiness of the Scotch is revealed as well as the tart, bitterness from the lemon. The anise flavor from the Pernod is prominent, but does not overpower the drink. The result is a potent, complex, and not too-sweet libation.

Elderflower Citrus Margarita

  • The Cocktail: The Elderflower Citrus Margarita with Milagro Silver Tequila, St. Germain, Cointreau, fresh squeezed lemon, lime, and orange juice, and a lightly salted rim
  • The night: Monday, 24 October 2011
  • The bartender: Courtney
  • Inspiration/Source: spinoff
  • The taste: Very fresh and slightly more sour than a traditional margarita with a light touch of floral.

The Delicious Sour

  • The Cocktail: The Delicious Sour with Applejack, Peach brandy, fresh lime juice, raw egg white, sugar, splash of soda water, Angostura bitters
  • The night: Thursday, 20 October 2011
  • The bartender: Courtney
  • Inspiration/Source: Classic cocktail
  • The taste: The sweet, yet mouth-puckering sour flavors are melded together by the mousse-like smoothness of the egg white. The bitters provide a pleasant aroma to compliment the complex flavors of the drink.

Cornish Pastry paired w/ Fig N’ Thyme Martini

  • The Cocktail: Fig Thyme Martini with Pisco, Cointreau, house-made thyme syrup, muddled fig, and freshly squeezed lime juice
  • The night: Friday, 19 August 2011
  • The bartender: Courtney
  • Inspiration/Source: The Art of the Bar by Jeff Hollinger
  • The taste: This is a delicious pairing! The savory pastry followed by sips of the sweet, yet slightly herbal thyme martini are a perfect start for transitioning into fall.
  • Cocktail Profile: Mulberry Mule

    • The Cocktail: Mulberry Mule – Vodka, ginger beer, fresh muddled mulberries, lime
    • The night: Monday, 28 March 2011
    • The bartender: Courtney
    • Inspiration/Source: the classic vodka mule
    • The taste: Yummy. Mulberries aren’t an overly sweet berry, and the ginger beer lends only a slight sweetness that enhances the freshness of the fruit. The drink itself is like biting into a fat, ripe mulberry that is somehow magically filled with vodka. After a few sips, though, you hardly notice the vodka is there anymore, and you’ve somehow preoccupied yourself with all the fun and floaty mulberry bits in your glass.

    Cocktail Profile: Le Grand Tour

    • The Cocktail: Le Grand Tour – Vanilla vodka, rosemary, ginger root, fresh lime, pear nectar, splash of soda
    • The night: Friday, 4 March 2011
    • The bartender: Courtney
    • The taste: Phenomenal. The vanilla and pear add just enough sweetness to the drink, and the rosemary adds a wonderful fresh flavour, combined with the zip of the ginger. It’s like eating a rosemary shortbread cookie–sweet and a little bit savoury. So tempting to have one after another… after another.

    Cocktail Profile: Le Petit Prince

    • The Cocktail: Le Petit Prince – Grapefruit vodka, fresh ginger, pear nectar, white grapefruit juice, splash of soda served with a slice of lime
    • The night: Monday, 28 February 2011
    • The bartender: Courtney
    • The taste: Fresh and fruity, yet not overly sweet or cloying, and definitely not a “girly drink.” Despite the white grapefruit juice and the grapefruit vodka, the drink wasn’t sour, and the citrus notes were beautifully tamed by the pear nectar and complimented with the zip of the ginger. Profoundly refreshing, especially for the upcoming spring and summer months, which can be pretty searing in Orlando.
